Greetings, Seattle HP fans! I just discovered this comm, and I notice that A) your mod seems to have dropped off the face of the earth, and B) no one has posted here in about eight months. I just this week inherited the modship of a small comm called seattlewizardry which is pretty much designed to do the same thing this one does. I'm working on growing membership, and I'm hoping to turn it into a fun, active place. If anyone here is interested in getting to know other HP fans in the Seattle area, and maybe meeting up for local geekishness, please feel free to join!

I plan to be at the Pacific Science Center for the midnight release of  DH2. The line party has been fun and I want to join in. I am trying to get some people to come on down and have fun before the show. Maybe a picnic dinner with items from the Harry Potter cook book? I recently purchased and used at Norwescon and the HPE Infra-red dueling wands. Anyone up for Wizard Dueling Lazer Tag style? This is the last movie release and I would like to make it a fun and remembered.

HP Exhibit
The last US stop for the Harry Potter Exhibition is Seattle's Science Center (Yay!!).  I was there opening day and went in costume.  There were just a few people in costume or other HP clothes.  A lot of kids were excited to see Professor McGonagall.  ;)

Unfortunately, no photos are allowed in the exhibit.  It is well worth going.  I was very pleased with the number of costumes on exhibit.  Nearly all the main characters had at least one.  There were student robes & Quidditch uniforms from various years.  There were a lot of Yule Ball costumes.

There were so many props.  The overall staging created a very convincing environment, too.  There is a booklet for the exhibit.  I was so busy looking at other merchandise I did not buy it.  Nearly all of the merch has been seen before.  There is a lot for the Noble Collection.

I got only two images.  The first is just in front of the banner at the exit point and one of a group who all came in garb.

This was forwarded to me:

"Fellow Wizards and Muggles,

If you haven’t heard the enchanting word yet, yesterday was the big day for the Pacific Science Center’s announcement that Seattle will be the final US stop (and West Coast Premiere) for Harry Potter: The Exhibition. This 10,000 square foot exhibition includes hundreds of props and costumes from the Harry Potter films and interactive exhibits.

It’s been a huge hit in previous cities, and gives us yet another special event to promote in Seattle this fall/winter!

October 23, 2010 through January 30, 2011

Tickets will be timed and go on sale to the general public this Saturday at 10 am."

My photos from Terminus.

Now that Terminus is over, it's time to think about attending next year's conference, which will be held in San Francisco.  Azkatraz 2009 and the message board

Hogwarts messenger bag
I made a Hogwarts themed bag for myself.  It is made of heavy black cotton fabric.  The inside is lined with Gryffindor red and gold with several pockets.  The short straps are lined with the same fabric.  These are all iron-ons.

If they'd let us, the Suzzallo Library at UW would make a wonderful background for photos in Harry Potter costume.

Invisibility cloaks - physics of the impossible on KUOW Weekday
Weekday had a recent episode that discussed the physics of the impossible.  They spent a fair bit of time talking about the invisibility cloak and how it might be possible in a decade or so!  Episode is titled  "Are Sci-Fi Technologies Possible? A Conversation with Dr. Michio Kaku"

Blurb is:
Invisible cloaks, mindreading, teleporting... all impossible, right? That's what they said about lasers and televisions too. Dr. Michio Kaku explores everything from time travel to Captain Kirk's phaser in his latest book, Physics of the Impossible. The worldrenowned physicist explains how, thanks to science, those neat Star Trek gadgets might be closer to reality than we think. Join us with your questions and SciFi dreams on Weekday

Despite not being sure whether there will be people to staff it, I've reserved a club lobby table for "Mischief Managed" our HP costuming group.  Even if we can't staff it, there will be handouts.  Much of my time may be taken up with the Star Wars group but I'm planning to be in HP costume in the evening.  Norwescon is always (unfortunately) Easter weekend.

Who is planning to attend?  Are you bringing costumes to wear?  Is there one time we can get together....I know, it's hard to predict before the schedule is out.

For Sale: Quidditch Bludger Bats
For Sale: Quidditch Bludger Bats

I have a couple of Quidditch bats for your HP cosplayers. A previous commission fell through, so I am offering them up here for sale. If you've got a Quidditch costume, why not make it a Beater? I made one of these for my Chudley Cannons costume, and it really made the costume, I got quite a few compliments on it.

I have two for sale right now. These are hand turned by me in my shop. They are made from Poplar wood, stained dark to resemble the movie version and finished with a couple of coats of polyurethane to protect it. The length of each bat is 17 1/2".

They are $35 each, plus shipping. I am guessing around $7 for shipping due to size in the US. I do take Paypal, please contact me at badger at badgerwoodworks.com for details.
